Happy 2013! While I dislike reminiscing unhappy times, 2012 was undoubtedly a very challenging one. Ever since I could remember, my life was very straight forward- it was overcoming one academic hurdle after another... I was never lost because in my head, music therapy was always my career choice, and everything else was just working towards that.
2012- first year out of uni as a fresh, new graduate. Wouldn't exactly say I was plunged into a world of unknown... I had a couple of jobs lined up, but there were times when I didn't know what to do with myself. Then my mentor passed away and I miss him till this day. I never understood the pain till I felt it myself.
Then my mum fell sick and still is sick. Rather than being challenged academically, which I was when it came to presenting in conferences, there were more real-life adult situations which presented itself last year. It's all about growing up....

Chavela, this cafe which I failed to blog about 3 months ago, doesn't exist anymore. It was a surprisingly good cafe, completely unintended for us to visit, but for some reason, I was with B around Burwood, looking at badminton stores I think, when we stumbled upon it.

Wasn't actually sure if I wanted to still blog about this cafe that closed down already, but I rather liked it. We went to revisit it once after badminton, only to find it gone...

They had good coffee, though I never gave it try. We never found out what blend of beans they used either. That was what we were going to find out...
Side story: Poor baristas get so much crap from customers sometimes. I overheard a customer asking for takeaway coffee... she didn't seem to know what she wanted herself. After a while, she asked for a flat white with the milk separate, and the barista made an espresso for her, with a cup of nicely frothed milk on the side. No no no, she said. The problem was with the milk, she wanted it cold. The barista handed her the whole bottle of milk (I laughed at that). She proceeded to make her own drink by pouring cold milk into the espresso. In my head, I'm imagining lukewarm coffee that's been sitting at the table for an hour. That's probably what it was like.... =(

I was feeling like a berries spider without ice cream instead! From what I remember, it was a lychee, strawberry+other mixed berries and soda combo. Quite nice.

Their Mediterranean breakfast. Just to be a little different, because usually breakfast typically consisted of bacon, sausages and egg. This one had different stuff! Like.. olives, and feta!
I still prefer my greasy bacon for breakfast though =D

Ohhh very good. How is it that cafes who pass the poached egg test have to close down while some other atrocious cafe out in the middle of CBD manage to stay alive while serving their terribly failed poached egg and hollandaise sauce? Life is just not fair.

Nutella crepe!!! This started my nutella obsession for a while. Now I have 3kgs of nutella sitting at home and I don't know what to do with them...

I could make nutella crepe ._. Look at that, oozing out with every cut I make to the crepe...

I would stuff that down in one bite.... there were so many other crepes there that I wanted to try too, not just nutella...
Maybe this cafe entry sounds a little depressing. Maybe it's tinged with regret at what had been, what was there, and what we could have tried had there been a "next time". It is vaguely nostalgic looking back at photos that I took 3 months ago and I was tempted to just start anew and blog from the current... blog from this month...
There is no room for regret! Tons of cafes in Sydney that remain unvisited (which... isn't a word apparently, according to blogger.com. How ISN'T "unvisited" a word??) May another good cafe take over the location that was Chavela's! Onwards, 2013~

Hope that 2013 is better for you and perhaps a year full of great things to come :)
Don't be too sad, so many more cafes to discover. Heck, might even be a time to recruit more buddies.
Hoe all is well!
Thanks, and no thanks to new cafe buddies or you might not be able to get a seat in those smaller cafes =P
